Master data
Central to Symphony, is the creation and governance of Master Data to be shared across the supply chain and used within your business applications.
Master Data is clean, deduplicated, accurate and governed data relating to products, people, entities, locations, and contracts.
The Master Data records are created once, and then shared with various applications through integrations. This eliminates duplication of effort and more importantly, creates a single source of truth, you can can rely on.
Sharing occurs via the GS1 National Product Catalogue (to which we are certified to write) and integrations directly with Symphony.
Symphony offers prebuilt connectors to over 200+ applications, which means simple, fast and cost-effective integrations, and results in better outcomes for digital automation and analytical applications.
GS1
GS1 is a critical piece of supply chain infrastructure with nearly 50 years of market acceptance (since the first barcode in 1974). It centres on a shared data pool referred to as The National Product Catalogue (NPC).
But, did you know, GS1 has limits that can affect your business?
- Data Pools lack consistency across the globe (there are 44 versions!)
- The data captured is limited to product information and is not access controlled
- Creating products in the NPC is cumbersome and time consuming
- Any subscriber can create and maintain products on the NPC, which results in duplicated and inconsistent data for the same products.
Symphony complements the NPC by augmenting it with richer, more comprehensive data that can be used for sophisticated analytics and automation of processes. It is protected by strict user permissions that control who sees sensitive data such as pricing and contract information.
For Traders
Trading is a fast-moving business where important decisions need to be made rapidly to take advantage of attractive opportunities before your competitors do. Conversely, if you buy too high or sell too low, your margin will be negatively impacted.
Analysis can be labour intensive, time consuming and open to human error. Offers come in a myriad of formats and are complex to sift through and calculate the total cost of the transaction. This means you may miss out on attractive opportunities and be limited in the volume that you are able to consume.
Offers come in completely different formats, with inconsistent quality levels and depth of information (CSVs, tables, images, text, pdf, word docs, Excel, etc).
To make good trading decisions you need to rapidly:
- Accurately match the product against a master to determine key attributes such as location, weight, alcohol content, packaging and dimensions
- Consider the fully landed costs and holding costs
- Understand the sell price to determine the margin
- Provide rich data to you customers that is easy to consume.
Symphony offers compelling solutions to these challenges:
Features
- Compare products from any country, currency, and trading terms, on a localised/normalised basis and in your preferred format
- Harness a trusted single source of truth for products, customers, suppliers, and contracts data
- Automated ingestion of disparate information to enable match against mastered products

- Populate rich product information from the pre-existing master to enable full view of the product and all mastered attributes such as alcohol content, weight, packaging and images
- Apply offer attributes such as location, price and freight
- Calculate landed costs including duties/taxes, tariffs, freight and holding costs

For Manufacturers
Even though manufacturers have embraced technology for core manufacturing and business systems, these systems often don’t share the same data and may be using different versions of the same data domain. They are also typically deployed to solve for individual organisations and do not span across the supply chain.
Diverse data sources lead to inconsistencies and manual processes in areas such as:
- Management of the product lifecycle and integration with GS1
- Reconciling rebates with the enterprise distribution agreements
- Price list proliferation / changes
- Data exchange with suppliers and customers
- Communication channels with customers
- Procurement of raw materials
Features
- Trusted single source of truth for products, customers, suppliers, and contracts data
- Single platform to enable broadcast to customers:
- promotions
- product changes: labels, vintage, package size, environmental improvements etc
- live data: cocktail mixes
- new products
- recalls
- contract and pricing
- Product lifecycle management with GS1 National Product Catalogue integration
- Campaign management
- Centralised contract management with improved automation and control over rebate calculation process
- Order input automation and control
- Cloud technology with pre-built application connectors
Benefits
- Pricing, rebate and contract management is more efficient
- Brand is represented correctly across the market
- Marketing campaigns are more effective
- Customer trust and retention is improved
- Better in house systems impact through single source of consistent, trusted data
- Single person and spreadsheet risk is eliminated
- Focus on higher value activities
- Deployment is low cost, non-disruptive
For Distributors, Wholesalers and Marketing Groups
Distributors and marketing groups have embraced technology for business systems such as ERP and CRM, however these systems often don’t share the same data and may be using different versions of the same data domain.
These systems are also typically deployed to solve for individual organisations, do not span across the supply chain, and require data to be recreated even though it already exists (such as product data).
The combination of disparate data sources and the focus on a single organisation leads to inconsistencies and manual processes in areas such as:
- Sifting through product offers and analysing them
- Reconciling manufacturer rebates with your trading agreements
- Competitive intelligence
- Price list proliferation / changes
- Data exchange with suppliers and customers
Symphony offers compelling solutions to these challenges:
Features
- Trusted single source of truth for products, customers, suppliers, and contracts data
- Single platform to enable broadcast to customers:
- promotions
- live data: cocktail mixes
- new products
- recalls
- contract and pricing
- Supplier marketing assets and data
- Automation of offer analysis from all suppliers
- Elimination of missed offers due to
- Suppliers not usually engaged (left field offers)
- Time constraints
- Web scraping for product competitive analysis
- Automation of supplier agreements with real time rebate entitlement calculations
- Automation of supplier/wholesaler interaction regarding promotional volume forecasting and scheduling
- Central repository for capturing and storing retail data
- Legacy systems integration ie POS and online retail
- Cloud technology with prebuilt application connectors
Benefits
- Purchasing decisions are better and faster, resulting in increased margin and revenue
- Exposure to offers is increased and cost of analysis process is reduced
- Customer trust and retention is improved
- Better in house and downstream systems impact through single source of consistent, trusted data
- Single person and spreadsheet risk is eliminated
- Focus on higher value activities
- Deployment is low cost, non-disruptive
For Outlets
Outlets have embraced technology for business systems such as ERP, CRM and POS, however these systems often don’t share the same data and may be using different versions of the same data domain. Typically, they are also deployed to solve for individual organisations, do not span across the supply chain, and data needs to be recreated even though it already exists (such as product data).
Using data from different sources leads to inconsistencies and highly manual processes in areas such as:
- Sifting through product offers and analysing them
- Competitive intelligence
- Reconciling manufacturer rebates with your trading agreements
- Publishing to online channels
- Campaigns / catalogues
- Quality product information
Symphony offers compelling solutions to these challenges:
Features
- Trusted single source of truth for products, customers, suppliers, and contracts data
- Automation of offer analysis from all suppliers
- Elimination of missed offers due to
- Suppliers not usually engaged
- Time constraints
- Web scraping for product competitive analysis
- Enablement and automation of rebate entitlement calculations and supplier contract management
- Automated publishing to channels such as POS and online retail
- Central repository for capturing and storing retail data
- Systems integration ie POS and online retail
- Cloud technology with pre-built application connectors
Benefits
- Pricing and purchasing decisions are better and faster, resulting in increased margin and revenue
- Streamlined processes reduce cost
- Better in house systems impact through single source of consistent, trusted data.
- Customer service is improved through better quality product information
- Single person and spreadsheet risk is eliminated
- Focus on higher value activities
- Deployment is low cost, non-disruptive
